Amazon Acquires Ring, Tech Expo Participant 2016

February 28, 2018

On Tuesday, February 27, Amazon has announced that it acquired Ring, a Californian startup working on IoT solutions for the home. The company has become known for its Ring Video Doorbell, which, by the way, was presented at IT Arena’s Tech Expo back in 2016.

With the help of an app, the Ring Video Doorbell enables you to see who’s at your doorstep and decide if you want to chat with them. It is predicted, that after Amazon’s acquisition (the deal was worth more than 1 billion $!), the doorbell will be integrated into the Amazon’s Key – a service that allows delivery services to access your home via a smart lock.

Since 2016, Ring has an R&D office operating in Kyiv. Currently, there are more than 450 employees based there. Initially, it was reported that Kyiv office is primarily involved in software development in the fields of machine learning, computer vision, intelligent data analysis, etc., however, right now a support department has been added as well.
