Hack the New World and The New Online Era – Collaborate for Impact Merge into One Event

May 12, 2020

Hackathon organized by IT Arena and Lviv Tech Angels – Hack the New World and The New Online Era  Collaborate for Impact by ELEKS made a decision to merge into one event to find effective tech solutions for the post-crisis period, which will be implemented in Lviv, our country, and the world.

The New Online Era – Collaborate for Impact aims to find solutions related to maintaining business continuity in times of crisis, the rules for secure interaction, overcoming logistical difficulties, and solving network issues. Similarly, Hack the New World seeks solutions for the post-quarantine Lviv, which will help the city to revitalize businesses as soon as possible. However, the aim of both events is the same: to bring together talented engineers and innovators and develop an effective ready-to-use product in 48 hours. Therefore, the organizers decided to unite and redouble their efforts. The event will take place on May 15-17.

“IT industry, like other businesses, has been actively helping to fight the pandemic across the country. Likewise, our community of tech companies in Lviv has been raising funds to purchase express tests for the city and region since the quarantine started. However, we decided to look a little further and take into account the possible problems that will arise for businesses and individuals after the quarantine restrictions are loosened. Undoubtedly, we will see numerous changes, and I think technology can help us in many ways: security, prediction, and analysis of certain situations, more convenient communication, etc. Therefore, bringing together proactive and talented people and implementing a creative and useful idea in a short time is another way the IT industry can help,” argues Mykhailo Puzrakov, President of Lviv Tech Angels, COO and Co-founder at Intellias.

The New Online Era – Collaborate for Impact and Hack the New World have combined their prize fund, mentors and jury members, as well as the participants from more than 12 countries who have already registered to participate in both hackathons. At the moment, the main prize amounts to $6000. Teams will also compete for a chance to receive angel investments, present their idea among the best Ukrainian startups at Startup Alley during IT Arena, as well as get free conference tickets. The hackathon jury includes representatives of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine and the Ministry of Digital Transformation of Ukraine.

Klaus Sonnenleiter, CTO at ELEKS, says, “In the face of a global crisis, we see areas for business growth and opportunities to improve our ways of cooperation. We have united the efforts of leading IT companies in Ukraine to create the most effective solutions. Technology is one of the most powerful tools of today, and the hackathon is a way to use them to address the pressing issues. We have brought together IT professionals, visionaries, analysts, and masterminds from around the world to find solutions to ensure the stability and development of our new digital age.”

The main areas in which technological solutions will be developed during the joint hackathon are the following:

  • Tourism and hospitality
  • Crisis response
  • Transportation
  • Retail industry
  • Work
  • Event industry
  • Education
  • Community development
