
Martin Bailey
Martin was educated in England, Germany, and the Netherlands. He began his career as a lawyer for an international law firm in London, specialising in antitrust, regulation, and intellectual property, before joining the European Commission. In addition to a stint at the Court of Justice of the European Union, his career at the Commission has spanned a wide range of areas, including the single market, antitrust, technology, and economic regulation, as well as the legal aspects of international agreements.
While his expertise is now firmly rooted within the AI Office, he has long been interested in developments in AI, particularly in Europe.
He has been a visiting professor at the College of Europe, Bruges, from 2018 to 2023, where he taught EU digital law and policy.
In addition to his native English, Martin is fluent in French and German, with a good grasp of Spanish.
