Olivia Kortas

Olivia Kortas is the Ukraine correspondent for Die Zeit, Germany’s leading weekly newspaper. Since the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion in February 2022, she has reported extensively from both the frontlines and the rear, focusing on the war’s impact on Ukrainian society, military developments, and political transformations unfolding in Kyiv. Prior to her current role, she covered migration, humanitarian crises, and democratic backsliding across Central and Eastern Europe, as well as in East Africa and the Middle East. Her field reporting has been published in The Economist, Deutsche Welle, Al Jazeera, and other international outlets.
