Bio

Kristina Mikulova, PhD, serves as Head of the European Investment Bank’s Regional Hub for Eastern Europe, based in Kyiv, Ukraine. Prior to her appointment to this position in October 2024, she worked as the EIB Representative in Lebanon (Beirut). Earlier, she also held the position of Senior Policy Advisor in the Bank’s Operations Department, where she focused on issues of additionality and investment impact, as well as the application of environmental and social standards in EIB projects in EU countries and other regions worldwide.

Passionate about international development, Kristina began her professional career in this field at the World Bank after earning her PhD in Social Sciences from the University of Oxford, where she was involved in implementing a variety of projects across Europe and Central Asia, providing governance expertise. She later rejoined the World Bank as an Advisor to the Board of Directors, where she was responsible for Eastern Europe and the Mashreq region during the Syrian migration crisis. It was this experience that deepened her interest in implementing structured approaches to project delivery in vulnerable and conflict-affected regions.

Kristina has also served as Head of the Development Cooperation Unit at the Ministry of Finance of Slovakia, where she facilitated the transfer of the country’s experience in economic reforms and European integration to partners in the Western Balkans and Eastern Europe.
