
Dan Herman
Dan Herman, PhD, is a Toronto-based innovation strategist, professor, and documentary producer who offers a global perspective on innovation ecosystems and the movement of capital, talent, and ideas worldwide.
His documentaries include “Magnetic Cities,” an 18-episode series that explores how emerging ecosystems in Africa, Asia, and Latin America are reshaping the global innovation economy, as well as the award-winning documentary “A People’s War” on the war in Ukraine.
He is the Executive Advisor, Innovation Policy & Global Ecosystems with Northguide Inc., drawing from his time as the head of innovation policy in Canada, where he helped shape the country’s Innovation and Skills Plan, as well as his time as the Government of Ontario’s special advisor on the creation of an intellectual property agency. In addition, he is a lecturer on global innovation ecosystems at the University of Toronto’s Munk School of Global Affairs and Public Policy.
Previously, he was the co-founder of the Centre for Digital Entrepreneurship and Economic Performance. Dan holds a PhD in political economy from the Balsillie School of International Affairs.
